Refugees in and after the Crusades

Although the crusades failed to capture Jerusalem, they had several major impacts on Western Europe. The Church and the Pope gained much power, making the refuge number fluctuate. Refugee numbers went down because when The Church gained power, so they put more time and money into helping, or benefiting, the poor. The power of the king was also increased after the Crusades. Sometimes, nobles died in battle without having an heir, so then the king would get the land that they owned. Wealth and power of many went up after the Crusades, therefore, decreasing the refugee count.
