Refugees in and after the Crusades

Refugees in and after the Crusades

This post was created by Drew Bruggeman

Although the crusades failed to capture Jerusalem, they had several major impacts on Western Europe. The Church and the Pope gained much power, making the refuge number fluctuate. Refugee numbers went down because when The Church gained power, so they put more time and money into helping, or benefiting, the poor. The power of the king was also increased after the Crusades. Sometimes, nobles died in battle without having an heir, so then the king would get the land that they owned. Wealth and power of many went up after the Crusades, therefore, decreasing the refugee count.

Effects of the Holocaust on refugees

Effects of the Holocaust on Refugees

This post was created by Drew Bruggeman

With few possibilities for refugees to emigrate, many of homeless Holocaust survivors moved to the west to other European areas. These territories were liberated by western Allies. There, the survivors were housed in hundreds of refugee camps/centers and displaced person camps. The United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration and the used armies of the United States, Great Britain, and France administered these camps. This helped refugees find more shelter from the devastating effects of the Holocaust.

Hindu Refugees from Pakistan

The refugees in this video are from Pakistan. They were forced to flee their homes because of their religion and the persecution they were getting. They were also trying to be forced into converting to the Islamic religion. In this video a man tours a refugee camp with no light, electricity, running water, medicine, furniture, etc. They also have snakes and other animals living in their homes. 🐍🐍🐍

What the Bible says About Refugees

What the Bible says About Refugees

Christians believe in the Bible to help guide them in their lives each day. A little information about Christianity is that we worship only one God, making Christianity a Monotheistic Religion. Christians also believe that God's words are written in the Bible. It is important to see what God has to say on topics in our lives. On that note, Here is what the Bible says about Refugees:
  1. “Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!” Deuteronomy 27:19
  2. "The same law applies both to the native-born and to the foreigner residing among you.” Exodus 12:49
  3. "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:28
  4. "Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it." Hebrews 13:2
  5. "You are to have the same law for the foreigner and the native-born. I am the LORD your God.’" Leviticus 24:22
  6. “ ‘If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and are unable to support themselves among you, help them as you would a foreigner and stranger, so they can continue to live among you." Leviticus 25:35
  7. "The LORD watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked." Psalm 146:9
  8. “This is what the LORD Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. "Zechariah 7:9
  9. "Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.’" Zechariah 7:10
  10. "He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. "Deuteronomy 10:18

These 10 quotes from the Bible shows us that God wants us to love and help anyone who is struggling, including refugees and foreigners. The Story of Um Osama

Um Osama is a Syrian refugee  that is Islamic. This will give you a little bit of an insight.
um-osama
UM OSAMA, from Hama: “She screamed a scream that made my heart ache. Then her body dropped dead in my hands. That is how I see Syria now. That’s our country that we used to live in. It was a horrible night. The military aircraft was above us, we heard noises of explosive barrels and rockets that were falling everywhere around us. I took my kids and went to an agricultural land near the outskirts of the village to search for a place where I could guarantee safety for my little children. As soon as we sat under one of the olive trees an aircraft bombed the place with cluster bombs. My little daughter died and my children and I were injured.”

Judaism and Refugees

Judaism and Refugees

Most people have heard of the Holocaust. During this time, Hitler killed people, just for being Jewish.  Jews believe in one God. They are were the first monotheistic religion. Abraham created this religion. Christianity, and Muslims are both branches of this religion. It is not uncommon for people to be discriminated against for a certain religion. If you see some on being discriminated against for their religion, Help Them!!!!

Ethiopia

Have you ever heard of Lucy? She is the oldest known human ancestor. The more scientific name is australopithecus afarensis. Nearly 3.5 million years old! She was about 3ft tall and walked on two legs, but she also climbed trees. Lucy was found in Ethiopia.
Today, Ethiopia hosts more than 900,000 refugees and asylum-seekers. Displaced people in Ethiopia may face challenges like access to water, education opportunists, and employment opportunities. Thankfully, a program called UNHCR is helping these people out.
